Darths and Droids

Another webcomic by the Comic Irregulars. Darths & Droids takes place in a universe where Star Wars doesn't exist.

At the beginning, 3 people participated in the campaign: Jim, (Player Character was Qui-Gon Jinn, then Padme, Captain Antilles and now Greedo (aka Han Solo)) Ben, (PC is Obi-Wan Kenobi) and the Gamemaster who created and modified the plot and controlled the NPC's (Non-player characters). Since Star Wars never was created in that universe, the GM (Gamemaster) makes things up as the players go along, only planning partially ahead, and rolling with the flow as the players some times make things up that will help them (for instance the players only have lightsabers so to give them a good defence Ben comes up with the idea that since they are energy weapons that can deflect blaster beams. Ben does not say this because he knows how cool lightsabers are in Star Wars but because this will help himself and Jim.) It was revealed that the GM's original campaign plan involved Ben and Jim staying on the Trade Federation starship and negotiating with them with a treasure belonging to the Phanastacorians, which was diverted several times when Ben and Jim chose to go down to Naboo and several other PCs joined the party.

Later on in the game additional people join and play different roles, including Ben's sister, Sally (Jar-jar Binks, Taun We, Lama Su, Mace Windu, C-3P0), Jim's friend Pete (R2-D2) and Annie, a girl from Ben's acting class (Shmi, now Anakin Skywalker). The characters have completed The Phantasmal Malevolence (Episode 1: The Phantom Menace) and are now playing The Silence of The Clones (Episode 2: Attack of the Clones). Currently the GM has returned from his "family emergency" and taken the session back over from Pete.

The comic Darths & Droids is inspired by DM of the Rings, a comic by Shamus Young who made a role-playing game out of Lord of the Rings. Shamus Young said he was surprised no one had done anything like that yet with another movie, so the Comic Irregulars decided to take on the challenge. They came up with the name in a lunch hour as well as coming up with the overall story and wrote the first strip.
